The Guerreros played their first UPSL Playoff match in club history, traveling to the Inland Empire and walking away victorious over MAFO FC.
The match was entertaining for any neutral fan, watching MAFO take a early lead over the Guerreros only to fall 4-3 through the course of 120 minutes.
In the first half, MAFO FC scored two early goals making it 2-0 within the first 20 minutes. After the second goal, OGFC bit back quickly; Gaston Figueroa shook two defenders on the left flank, cut inside, and fired a rocket to the top right corner to restore confidence for Oxnard.
The second half saw Los Guerreros come out strong, scoring two goals on corners via Man of the Match Tomas Araujo and rising star Michael Hernandez, who has anchored his place in the starting XI this UPSL Pro Premier season. Having taken a 3-2 lead in dominant fashion, OGFC was then caught out ten minutes later by a quick counterattacking goal from MAFO; ending regular time 3-3 and forcing extra time.
Neither team looked tired nor ready to end their season, battling hard into extra time. JP Fernandez broke the deadlock with a free kick, slotting it in the bottom left corner from the right of the 18, ensuring advancement for OGFC to the UPSL So-Cal Semi-Finals.
